EAST INDIA
The east is, largely undiscovered India - India-in-waiting.
This, in a way, is strange, because
Calcutta was
the first capital of Britain's "Jewel in the Crown" - India.
But, with the shifting of the administrative capital to
New Delhi in the
north, & the
development of Bombay
in the west into the industrial capital, focus shifted from the east.
However, now the east is being rediscovered - the cultural wealth of
Calcutta, the heritage
, handicrafts & beaches
of Orissa , the
orchids & mountains of
Sikkim , the
forested islands & corals of the Andamans, the gentle mists &
greenery of Meghalaya
, the great riverine culture of
Assam & the
exotic vastness of
Arunachal
, Nagaland ,
Mizoram ,
Manipur &
Tripura .
