holiest of holy places for Hindus is, Varanasi (Kashi), on the banks of
the Holy river Ganges, in Uttar Pradesh. This ancient city with a recorded
history of about 3000 years, is graced by Lord Shiva and his consort
(Annapurna), also called Vishalakshi. Rameshwaram at the Southern tip of
India is the Southern counterpart of Kashi, so to say and is the abode of
Shiva too. Next in order of importance are, Badrinath and Kedarnath
(Char-Dhams), in the Himalayas.
