Vihar and Powai Lakes are two adjoining lakes in Mumbai suburbs. These lakes are popular picnic spots where office goers, students and tourist groups often go for excursion on weekends and holidays. A delightful park is laid out by the side of lakes and there are number of shady trees for relaxation. Visitors will find a varying skyline of the suburbs.

Vihar Lake is mainly a vast water reservoir built by the British in 1860 for the supply of drinking water to Mumbai . An amount of Rs. 65 lakhs was spent on the scheme. The Powai Lake also was constructed in the British regime, in 1889 and is a beautiful place for outing.

HOW TO GET THERE

26-km and 28-km by suburban electric train respectively to Kurla or Andheri and then by road to these Lakes. Buses from Andheri railway station are also available on Sundays and Holidays.
