VENGURLA-MALVAN

Location: Southern Part Of The Maharashtra Coastline



Vengurla is situated in the Southern part of the Maharashtra coastline. Its famous for its long stretch of shimmering sand, lined with thick cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves. Nearby are the Vengurla rocks also known as Burnt Islands.

On what was once an inner island, and is now part of the mainland, which lies in the old town of Malvan, almost hidden by palms. It also houses two famous temples, the Shri Devi Sateri temple and the Rameshwar temple.

An Ancient Trade Centre

Once upon a time it was an important trade centre, which was twice destroyed by the many attacks to this place between 1664-1812. There are two old forts the Sindhudurg and Padmagad in the township of Malvan. It is believed that an underground tunnel was to have joined the two forts.

HOW TO GET THERE

Rail: Kolhapur is the nearest railhead from the beach.

Road: By road, Malvan is 514-km away from Mumbai , and 200-km from Ratnagiri. Ratnagiri is well connected with all the places in the state and tourists can access this place easily from Ratnagiri. Vengurla is at a distance of 522-km from Mumbai.
