Pragati Maidan is a sprawling exhibition ground on Mathura
Road and a venue for all the national and International trade
fairs, which draw crowd in large numbers
throughout the year. Many business and industrial organisations from all
over the world participate in these fairs, resulting in exchange of
technical prowess, industrial collaboration and joint ventures.
A Museum Hub
Founded in 1982 on the eve of Asian Games, this place is also a hub of
various museums comprising of different items of Indology. Worth visiting
are Nehru Pavilion, Defense Pavilion, Indira Pavilion, Son of India
Pavilion and Village Complex, which brings out a beautiful presentation of
diversified India and covers an area of 7 acres.
It also houses the Crafts
Museum, which is having collections of 20,000 specimens of weaving
products, metal products - Daru and wooden products- earthen moulds,
images and artifice. The state pavilions are a must visit to witness the
variance of various Indian states at one place.
Entertainment & Amusement
Along with the museum there are other sculptural and cultural specimens
for the entertainment of the
visitors, which take place every weekday at Pragati Maidan from 9.30am to
5.30pm. On holidays the place remains open till 8 o'clock in the evening.
At Gate No 5, is situated Appu Ghar, an amusement Park aiming especially
for entertaining kids. Children will love to be here any day of the week
between 12am to 8pm. This modern playground for children has some of the
world's most sophisticated equipment meant for children at play. Sharing
the same timing with Appu
Ghar is the Falakhnuma Open Air Theatre, another place opened by the
government of India's Tourist Department for the entertainment of the
public.
