Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Gardens
are beautiful gardens with rare species of plants and trees, maintained by
the 'Devasthanam'. This garden spreads over 460 acres in
Tirupati
and Tirumala. Tourists who visit Tirupathi can see these splendid gardens
with around 200 varieties of plants.
There
are four nurseries at Tirumala with mist chambers - in the Travellers
Bungalow area, Gogarbham Dam area, Sri Padmavathi Guest House area and
Divyaramam area. A number of hybrid varieties of plants are developed and
raised in the nurseries.
It is believed that the great 'Vaishnava Acharya Sri Ramanuja' and his
disciple, 'Sri Anandalwar' are responsible for starting these gardens, in
the 14th century. One can find inscriptions in the temple, which refer to
numerous flower gardens during the latter period of the 14th and 15th
centuries.
The total demand for the flowers of all the temples in Tirumala is met by
these gardens. It supplies garlands for the deities and for decorating the
'mandapam', 'pandals' and 'vahanas' on festive occasions. TTD also
organises horticultural flower shows every year during the 'Brahmotsavam'
called as "Pushpa Yagam".
HOW TO GET THERE
Rail: Tirupati being the most famous pilgrim centre is well connected by. Road: Regular bus services are also available from Tirupati to any of the major cities in and around the state. For city transportation taxis, autos and city buses are available too.
